The curtains are coming down on all of Europe’s top five leagues with the Italian Serie A set to complete its matches this weekend. 

The clubs though will not enjoy the usual long pre-season, owing to the coronavirus pandemic that struck in March and altered the footballing calendar. 

Most leagues are expected to return in September, which translates to less than a month’s rest for the top clubs, who still have the Champions League and the Europa League to contend. 

So, ahead of the 2020/21 season, which teams have been promoted?

England

Spain

  • Real Zaragoza

  • Huesca

Italy

  • Benevinto
  • Crotone 
  • TBC (play-off winner)

Germany

  • Arminia Bielefeld
  • VfB Stuttgart
  • Werder Bremen *

* Heidenheim, the third-place team in 2.Bundesliga took on Werder Bremen (16th in Bundesliga) in a playoff and lost, which means Werder preserve their top-flight status.

France
