Wenger says there must be changes in order to help the game reach new heights.
Arsene Wenger is keen to make drastic changes to the FIFA World Cup and the Euros in a bid to help the game grow to new heights.
The FIFA Chief of Global Football development wants to change popular international competitions such as the World Cup and the Euros.
Speaking to the Bild, Wenger said, “One World Cup and one European Championship every other year would probably be more appropriate for a modern world.”
“I always tell people who say that the image is not linked to the time you wait before playing again, but rather the quality of the competition. After all, people also watch the Champions League every year. Personally, I think it would be a great step forward.” he added.
Wenger isn’t a fan of the Nations League and believes it should be scrapped stating it has done little for the international scene. The former Arsenal boss argued that the tournament is also too complicated for an average fan.
“We need to get rid of the Nations League and find clearer events that everyone understands,” the former manager added.
“If you ask people in the street what the Nations League is, you won’t find many able to explain it. We need to have as few events as possible.”
