The tennis tour came to a halt due in early March due to the outbreak of coronavirus, canceling the several clay court and grass court tournaments including the Wimbledon Championships. However, the organizers of the French Open and Italian Open are still hoping to hold to their events later this year.

It is still uncertain when the tennis tour will resume in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. However, the organizers of the Italian Open 2020 are positive to hold the tournament in September.

“We hope like you to be able to return to play” – Italian Open 2020

The organizers of the Italian Open sent an update to the ticket holders of the tournament. The ticket holders of the event were informed that they are hopeful of playing the tournament in September. However, they’ll provide the confirmation about the tournament as soon as possible.

“Dear tennis friend, as you may have already read in the media, in the middle of June ATP and WTA, the two associations that manage the world tennis calendar, should communicate when and with which program the international circuit of 2020 will restart,” Italian Open organizers wrote in an email.

“The hypothesis at the moment is that the Internazionali BNL d’Italia can take place in September. But we must wait for the certainty, linked to the extraordinary situation of the Coronavirus,” the email continued.

“We, therefore, hope to be able to give you more information on the Tournament and on the use of the tickets purchased by you as soon as possible. We hope like you to be able to return to play, to participate, and to cheer for our favorite players,” the organizers concluded.

Tennis requires a lot of travel week after week. It might be one of the last sports to resume its season due to the travel restrictions.
