Jadon Sancho was on Saturday afternoon named the bench as Borussia Dortmund welcomed Schalke at the Signal Iduna Park in Bundesliga’s first matches following a two-month break.
The England international is said to have been struggling with a calf problem, and coach Lucien Favre did not want to risk him from the start.
Having struggled with the strain for a few weeks now, Sancho was left on the bench as Giovanni Reyna was named to take his place in his first official start ever.
It was however not to be for the 17-year-old, after an injury during the warm-up ruled him out of the match, with Thogan Hazard replacing him.
Dortmund also missed the services of Marco Reus, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Emre Can, Nico Schulz, and Axel Witsel, who were all ruled out with injuries
Here’s how the team lined up for the Rivierderby.
